Picasso Ward, Chapters House

The continuing £4.5m refurbishment of Chapters House is progressing! Picasso ward, the 17 bed scheme is one of 6 wards, which is the first to have been completed by Amwell Construction. This has brought about a greatly improved environment for those staying at the facilities.

Picasso ward is located in Sunflowers Court, a ground floor building boasting an outdoor game area as well as a secure garden area. This ward provides a rehabilitation service for males and females who are experiencing long-term mental health problems, and those whose initial examination is complex and challenging. This ward specializes in treating service users who resist help and those who have a secondary diagnosis of substance misuse.

These service users require a longer period of inpatient treatment to recover and allow them to function to the best of their abilities, aiming to return back to community living. The service usually admits people from the acute inpatient ward at Sunflowers Court between the ages of 18 and 65 years old.

Kingsway Group worked with the trust to provide solutions that cover the range of requirements found in such a specialist facility. SWING high secure, anti-barricade doorsets were used to protect patients and staff around the bedrooms whilst SHOWER anti-ligature doorsets now give the service users their dignity in the suites whilst maintaining a high level of safety and staff management capabilities. The SOLO doorset solution was used to cover corridor and entrance doors where anti-barricade solutions were not required.
